Handprinted Linocut and Woodcut Prints by Louise Midgley

Paul McCartney (Linocut Print)

£20.00 - £25.00

A signed, hand carved, hand pressed Linocut print of Paul McCartney, limited to only 80 editions per colour way.

Paul McCartney was born 18th June 1942 in Liverpool.

His father, who was a cotton salesman by day and a jazz pianist by night, encouraged Paul to try out multiple musical instruments. By the time he was 16, he had already written "When I'm Sixty-Four," with the hope of selling it to Frank Sinatra!

Paul’s mother died when he was only 14, and not long afterwards, in 1957, he met John Lennon at a church festival where Lennon’s band, the Quarrymen, were performing. He was soon invited to join the band, and the following year, 1958, Lennon’s mother also died. The two band members therefore had both a love of music and shared experience to bond them, and they agreed early on that all of their songs would be credited to Lennon-McCartney, no matter who had taken lead. Thus the most famous partnership in musical history was born.

By 1960, the duo had been joined by George Harrison, Stuart Sutcliffe and Pete Best and renamed themselves The Beatles, regularly packing out Liverpool's Cavern Club. Their popularity led them to a tour of Hamburg, and it was here that they recorded their first tracks and were signed to EMI by George Martin. Sutcliffe left, Best was kicked out, Ringo Starr became drummer, and the rest, as they say, is history. The world became gripped by “Beatlemania", and their innovative sound made a lasting impact on popular music.

The Beatles disbanded in 1970, having released 12 studio albums. McCartney was the first Beatle to release a solo album (“McCartney”, in 1970), and went on to form Wings, a band that remained popular throughout the 1970s, winning two Grammy Awards and churning out multiple hit singles.

In 2010, President Barack Obama awarded Sir Paul McCartney the Gershwin Prize - the highest award a musician can receive in America, and furthermore McCartney was the first non-American to be given this honour.

As with my John Lennon print, I’ve made this available in classic B&W, OR overlaid on his favourite colour, which in McCartney’s case is blue.

🎶

In my representation of him I have printed him in classic B&W, or in black upon a blue background, that being his favourite colour. I intend to carve Linocuts of all four Beatles and mount them as a quadrant, so they will be available to buy either as a set, or individually, as with this one.
